The biggest AI trap for seasoned business owners

Getting sick last year was one of the best things that happened to me.

It didn't feel that way at the time.

I had to let go of 3 team members while trying to get BigMoves AI off the ground.

It was rough.
But looking back... it forced something I wouldn't have done otherwise.

It forced me back into the weeds of business.

Here's the trap most experienced business owners fall into with AI.

If you've been running a team for years, you've been trained to delegate. Something not worth your time? You don't even think about it. You just hand it off.

That was the right way to run a business 5 years ago.

It's the wrong way to think about AI.

When I lost my team, I had to do everything myself.
Tasks I hadn't touched in years.
The stuff I'd always considered "below my pay grade."

But instead of just doing those tasks... I built automations for them.

And the output I have today is the equivalent of 2–3 virtual assistants. Running 24/7. Without the overhead.

Over the last few months I've had a front row seat watching how people inside our partner brands and client businesses are actually working day to day.

Most of them are still doing it the old way.

I'll ask where something is. They say they need a few hours to pull it together.

I open Claude Co-work, run a prompt, and show them the output in 10 minutes... and it's also 10x better than what they would have produced manually.

It's not that they're not smart. They just haven't rebuilt the process.

And it's happening everywhere.

  • Website design.
  • Graphics.
  • Project management.
  • Operations.
  • Every single area of the business.

So here's what I think needs to happen depending on where you're at.

Under $5M a year: get back in the weeds yourself. Rebuild every SOP from the ground up with an AI-first approach. Not AI as an add-on. AI as the starting point.

Over $5M a year: your executives and leadership team need to be doing this for you. Working with engineers and automation specialists to rebuild the way the business actually runs.

Don't believe me? Look to Silicon Valley.

And you'll find instance after instance of billionaires who made their money the old way talk about how they've started coding and building their own tools and workflows again for the first time in over a decade.

The secret to success in the new AI world is hidden in plain sight!

You can keep doing it the old way for another year or two. It'll hold.

But it won't hold forever. And the gap between those who've rebuilt and those who haven't is already widening fast.

At a minimum, start with Claude Code and Co-work.
Learn them yourself.
Then train your team.

Hope this helps!

I was in Singapore recently and caught up with a mate who coaches some of Australia's most successful entrepreneurs. He's written books on it. Spent years figuring out what separates people who consistently perform from those who just work hard and stay stuck. He told me my edge is 'the innovator.' Someone who has a feel for how things work across all types of businesses and niches... and can piece together old methods with new technology. I didn't disagree. But I also hadn't thought about it...

One of the most challenging decisions business owners have today is: When do I go all in on AI? And the answer isn't straight forward. For example, we're continuing to debate whether to rebuild our entire website and move off Wordpress to a custom solution. Long-term it makes total sense. Every few months it becomes easier and easier. And I've seen a number of people spend 3-4 weeks moving to an AI first, vibe-coded solution for serious websites. (of course you can stand up a few simple pages...

Last week we hosted our first AI summit, the AI Content Mastery Summit. We had 24 amazing speakers. Thousands of attendees signed up and watched the sessions. I also spoke on 5 live Q&A's with my co-host Simone Lea. Overall it was a great week that I believe will be a turning point for the brand. And there's 1 reason why it was a success... Before I get to that, if you missed any of the summit... don't worry. We'll be releasing it on Youtube over the next 3 months. In fact, check out our new...
